About me;

Why I Began Writing?

Why I Began Writing

yo divas, i’m aanchal vachhani,

i write because i don’t really have a choice. i’m seventeen, which probably explains some of it, but not all. there’s just too much happening inside my head. conversations i never had, questions nobody asked, lines that appear in the shower, economics that sounds suspiciously like poetry, poetry that accidentally becomes politics. if i don’t write it down, it follows me everywhere.

this little corner of the internet is where all of that ends up.

i don’t think writing changes the world overnight. it barely changes my sleep schedule. but it helps me make sense of things that feel too large, too beautiful, too absurd, or too ordinary to leave unnoticed. sometimes you’ll find essays here. sometimes stories. sometimes something that doesn’t fit neatly into either because life rarely does.

if you’re here, welcome. steal a sentence if it stays with you. disagree when you must. linger if something makes you think. and if you leave with one question more than you arrived with, i’d call that a pretty good trade.

no four images in the world would be able to describe me wholly, but this is a good start to know that i am just too much, but i’d rather be too much than nothing at all.

like most people, i started writing with a spectacular lack of confidence. i wasn’t sure if my words meant anything, if anyone would read them, or if they’d quietly dissolve into the endless noise of the internet. i spent far too much time wondering whether i had anything worth saying.

turns out, that wasn’t really the point.

the more i wrote, the less i cared about being profound and the more i cared about being honest. somewhere between half-finished drafts, late-night rambles, and stories i never meant to publish, i realized writing wasn’t about having all the answers. it was about making sense of the questions.

why bother?

writing is strange.

it’s one of the few things humans do where they willingly hand complete strangers a piece of their interior life and hope it survives the journey. sometimes it does. sometimes a sentence written at two in the morning finds someone halfway across the world at two in the afternoon. that’s enough to make me believe words travel better than people.

i don’t write because i think i have extraordinary answers. if anything, i have an unreasonable number of questions. why do we romanticize things only after they’re gone? why do markets behave like people and people behave like markets? why does a song you’ve heard a hundred times suddenly ruin your evening in the best way possible?

this website is my attempt to keep asking.

you’ll find essays, stories, half-formed observations, economics disguised as philosophy, philosophy disguised as late-night overthinking, and the occasional sentence that existed purely because it refused to leave me alone.

i don’t expect you to agree with everything here. disagreement is healthy. indifference is boring. if something makes you laugh, argue, pause for a second longer than you meant to, or send it to someone with a “this reminded me of you,” then these words have already done more than i could’ve asked.

so welcome.

make yourself at home. wander around. read whatever catches your eye. leave with more questions than you arrived with. certainty is overrated anyway.

best,

aanchal vachhani
