Let me save you some time, no.
You cannot mass-produce an aesthetic whose entire premise is refusing to conform.
Whimsymaxxing, ah man here we go again, yet another “trend” that sucks the soul out of things and turns them into spineless, meaningless trends.
So… whimsical or “whimsy” as they say in incorrect grammar, yet another adjective demolished, broken down, & remolded into yet another form of plastic, but oh kylie jenner did i have to do it too, why do you hate yourself so bad, genuinely introspect a little, why do you live in a constant ache of conformity, last week it was chic, now its whimsical.
The whole idea of being whimsical [i am not going to participate in calling it whimsy, WHIMSY IS A NOUN we are talking about an ADJECTIVE here] is to be yourself, is to be the moron rebel who does things not to fit in but to be their own person, it is not even about standing out, it’s simply not giving a fuck about the social norms around how to dress, or the ever changing trends.
Phoebe Buffay was whimsical, Jessica Day was whimsical, Dwight Schrute was whimsical or/and autistic, Ted Mosby was sort of.. whimsical i mean the red boots.. The idea is to be this weird little person of their own, who wears thrifted or hyper specific niche styles of their own, regardless of being the black sheep in their social groups. You could be a goth, alt, indie, or an actual human being instead of adjectives, just a thought, and still be infinitely whimsical, you don’t have to be head to bottom pastel and have plastic topped with plastic on your face??? LMFAO what even, im cryin.

You can’t be fr if you call me the “killer of joy” here bc this is so infinitely wasteful, you can’t tell me that the one time use mask with all those plastic rhinestones isn’t going to be thrown out the minute you’re done with it. Being whimsical is to be the polar opposite of this, to refuse to be different at the same time, again what even.
Why
To buy
Suddenly after this enormous wave of beige minimalism, being “chic” or “old money” we are now being sold “whimsy” and colours because aesthetic cycles are monetized and replaced once one aesthetic becomes saturated, hence now we are onto this yet another trend or wave of trends i might add, where we are being sold the same shit in different fonts.
What can you do about it?
Literally just not give a fuck
Just live as your own person, quit being the physical embodiment of hailey bieber or kylie or kendall or ringo starr. You can like them, adore them, but copying them head to toe even as you eat sushi with a face mask on, son, it gets creepy.
Be your own muse, learn how to love yourself, and not how to become a celebrity you love, become wholly that and call it self love. If i tell you what your actual whimsy is, it defeats the whole purpose of this article i wrote in a week. Find it, look for it in the places you’d least expect it to be. Seek, fail, and try again, your actual idea of being whimsical might indeed be rhinestones, but if it is only for the sake that it’s trending and will be thrown out next week, then in all true senses it’s false.
But who am I to tell you that.
If plastic is your calling then so be it. I can’t and won’t define your whimsy for you. Just don’t resell it with a “whimsy” tag onto the engineered engine and claim the culture of people you’d once bully. Because Whimsy is weird, it always has been.
xoxo.
